I'm sure many of you have heard the news about LinkedIn and eHarmony passwords being stolen by hackers. This got me thinking..I wonder how many of those people use the same passwords for those sites as they do for other sites? I'm not just talking about social and dating sites..how many of those people were using those passwords for their bank accounts..personal email..etc? Do you use the same password for every site that requires one? I hope not. If you do you're asking for trouble..big trouble..like your bank accounts and credit cards being drained..or even worse and harder to recover from identity theft. Here are a few tips to help keep you and your personal information safe.
1. Use different passwords everywhere.
2. Change your passwords often. You should change your passwords at least once a month.
3. Avoid using common or obvious passwords. Never use your birthday, social security number, or words that can be found in the dictionary. As a matter of fact a strong password contains both numbers and letters..upper and lower case randomly placed.
4. Don't share your passwords with others.
I know some of these tips seem obvious but you'd be surprised how many people don't follow those 4 simple strategies to protect their passwords.
